The Westland Floating Parade is an annual, unique and colourful event that travels through the Westland for three days. Some sixty magnificent boats, adorned with fruit, vegetables, flowers and plants, travel along some 70 kilometres of waterways. Every day a new route is taken through the centres of the Westland, Middle Delfland, Vlaardingen, Rijswijk, The Hague municipalities, before finally arriving at Delft. This annual Floating Parade is traditionally held at the beginning of August and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors and has been recorded for all to enjoy in a remarkable manner. Filmmaker Menno Mennes followed this parade throughout its three days’ travel, from the quayside to the water and its further journey, capturing all the excitement and colour of this beautiful and unusual event.
